Stearic Acid is a typical example of a fatty acid, which are essentially long hydrocarbon chains containing a carboxyl group at one end and a methyl group at the other. The chain lengths can vary from 3 (propionic acid) to 24 (lignoceric acid) but the majority of fatty acids found in hydrogenated vegetable or animal oils are around C16-C20 in length.

Description:

This product is white or white powder or crystalline lump with slippery feeling. Its profile has fine needle-like crystals with slight luster. It has a slight odor similar to grease and tasteless. Soluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform and other solvents, insoluble in water.

Function

Properties: single product is white with a slight sheen of waxy crystal dice.
Does not dissolve in water (20 ºC, 100 ml water dissolved 0.00029 g). Slightly soluble in cold ethanol. Soluble in acetone, benzene, ether, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, sulfur dioxide, chloroform, hot ethanol, toluene, amyl acetate, etc.
Widely used in cosmetics, plastic hardy plasticizer, release agent, stabilizer, surfactant, rubber vulcanization agent, waterproofing agent, polishing agent, metal soap, metallic minerals flotation agent, softener, pharmaceuticals and other organic chemicals.
